Using InBody 270 for Body Composition Analysis: A Recap

When you get on the scale, the numbers change by the hour. Isn’t that frustrating? Well, a body composition analysis is one of the best and most accurate solutions. With the InBody 270 at Chris Protein Personal Training, you can get deeper insights into your health and wellness. Here’s a deeper dive into this fantastic fitness technology.

What Are InBody Machines?

The story goes back to the early 1990s when Dr. Kichul Cha completed his fellowship at Harvard Medical School and returned home to South Korea. However, something was on his mind. Cha realized the present body composition analysis machines weren’t as accurate as they should’ve been. In response, he founded Biospace in 1996 and later renamed it InBody.

Cha’s background in mechanical engineering came in handy. With his knowledge of the human body and machinery, the Harvard grad went to work and created the first InBody machine. The company’s innovation used an eight-point electrode system to analyze impedance in the body’s segments.

Over the next two decades, Cha opened subsidiaries worldwide and improved his products.

By the early 2010s, his company had unveiled the InBody 570 to measure segmental fat analysis. Then, 2014 saw the launch of the InBody 770, which is strong enough for research use. When 2016 arrived, the business released the InBody 270, which we use for body composition testing.

What’s Special About the InBody 270?

The InBody 270 is one of the company’s most recent developments for body composition analysis. This machine is more portable than its predecessors, making it more suitable for gyms and doctor’s offices. The InBody 270 is terrific because it quickly measures your fat, muscle mass and water.

Like the previous machines, the InBody 270 requires you to hold its electrode hands. Then, the software analyzes your entire body to give you a holistic health exam. If you’ve made New Year’s resolution that involves reducing body-fat or gaining muscle, this machine is terrific for staying on course and tracking your progress. From your metabolic rate to the muscle-fat analysis, the InBody 270 can do it all.

The InBody 270 is great if you want to track your progress over time. For instance, your primary goal for 2025 is weight loss. After making it through the holidays, you want to lose 10 pounds. Experts say losing 4-8 pounds each month is safe, so you use your InBody machine for analysis. This technology ensures you’re on track to reach your weekly and monthly goals.

How Does It Provide an Accurate Body Composition Analysis?

Everybody’s bodily composition is different. While your friend may be taller, you may gain muscle like a bodybuilder. InBody machines set themselves apart by focusing on your body. When you step onto the Inbody, it’s like you’re the only one flexing in the mirror. This technology uses artificial intelligence to get the full rundown of your body.

The body analysis becomes more accurate because InBody doesn’t include empirical data. Without these assumptions about your age, sex or ethnicity, you can be more confident in the results. Experts say algorithms can demonstrate biases based on demographic factors. Therefore, it’s essential to have wellness machines that only focus on you and your body.

While historical data can be helpful, the InBody 270 uses other means. The cutting-edge technology utilizes high and low frequencies to monitor your body’s cellular activity. It's very easy to use, all you have to do is hold hands with it (D'awww). When you hold the electrode’s robotic hand, it follows the electrodes from your palms and thumbs to get consistent results.

What Does Research Say About It?

The InBody 270 isn’t just a scale — it’s a medical-grade device. This machine has received FDA approval and meets rigid regulatory and safety standards. It’s not your grandparents’ old-fashioned scale! Since InBody’s beginning, research teams have gauged its effectiveness in various clinical environments and research areas.

One of the most recent studies came from the Journal of Primary Care and Community Health. In this review, the researchers examined the body composition of older adults before and after a COVID-19 infection. The experts chose the InBody 270 for each subject, saying this machine is terrific for impedance-type examinations without X-ray absorptiometry. Who says you have to go to a doctor for high-tech solutions?

While the InBody 270 is a smaller machine, it has become widespread in clinical settings. Doctors can use it to monitor their patients and detect health issues like obesity or metabolic syndrome. It can be even more helpful as you age and your hair turns gray. A 2023 Frontiers in Physiology study used the InBody 270 to analyze the body composition of older women effectively.
