From knee pain to conquering long hikes, Emma’s journey has seen it all.
When Emma stepped into Chris Protein Personal Training, she needed a change of pace. How did she shift gears? With help from Caroline, she solved her slump and knocked her knee pain out of the park. She also lost over 40 lbs! Here’s more about Emma’s story and what you can learn from her incredible transformation.
Starting Emma’s Journey to Better Fitness
Emma and her husband went on vacation and endured an intense hike. While this nature walk was filled with birds and bears, she could barely enjoy or finish the journey because of her knee pain.
“I was in more pain than I had ever experienced,” Emma said.
Fast forward to her next vacation, when she and her husband biked and hiked their way throughout the trip. This time, she did it all without pain.
How did she reach this point? Emma teamed up with Caroline from Chris Protein Personal Training.
Starting the path to fitness can be challenging, but Emma’s story includes steadiness and consistency. Every Monday and Wednesday, she’s excited to go to the gym for training.
“I think the biggest difference that I've seen is feeling consistently motivated to come here,” she said. “It doesn't feel like a slog to get myself together and get to the gym.”
Solving the Pesky Knee Pain
Knee pain is something Emma has known all too well. Simple movements like getting in and out of a chair felt more challenging than a pop quiz in calculus class.
These sensations are felt across America, so Emma’s not the only one. Unfortunately, it follows you as you age and lose muscle mass. A University of Michigan survey found that 70% of people over 50 have occasional joint pain.
So, how did Emma conquer the knee pain? Motivation sprinkled with consistent strength-training exercises did wonders for her body — now she’s better than ever.
“My greatest success has been getting rid of the knee pain that I came in with that was making it difficult to go up and down stairs,” she said. “So, that's had a drastic impact on what I can do in the gym as far as what exercises I can do and the amount of weight I can lift, but more importantly my quality of life.”
How Caroline’s Inspiration Influenced Emma’s Journey
When working with a personal trainer, it’s essential to trust them and enjoy the fitness process. Emma attributes her workout motivation and excitement to Caroline, who guides you on her journey.
“I wanted someone who was really going to help me have a structured approach to rebuilding strength and getting into a consistent routine, and I totally found that in Caroline.”
The one-on-one service you get with a personal trainer is unmatched. While trainers can improve your physical abilities, their mental game goes a long way too. Emma’s journey has been about finding the extra ounces of motivation along the way.
“Having someone who makes me excited to come to the gym and feel great leaving the gym makes a world of difference when it comes to working out,” she said.
Getting Started on Your Path to Fitness
If your experience is close to Emma’s, you may wonder what it’s like to create your personal fitness story. Luckily, getting started and paving the way for results is less complicated than you think. Here are five ways to kick-start your exercise adventure and get healthier.
1. Define Your Goals
Direction stimulates your motivation, so detail what you want to accomplish. Emma’s journey benefited from setting goals and finding that extra ambition from within.
“I say if you know what you want out of it, and you need that little extra push, go for it,” she said.
Your motivation could be shedding pounds or shredding your muscles — regardless, you should set specific goals to know what you’re going for.
2. Get Into a Routine
Your best friend may be your spouse or someone you went to school with, and a new pal at the gym called consistency can really help you achieve your goals.
Emma’s journey should serve as motivation, as consistency fueled her accomplishments. Experts recommend 150 minutes of moderate activity each week, so your schedule can be flexible.
Just 50 minutes for three days a week can reach the 150-minute goal, so determine how you want to split it up.

3. Switch up the Exercises
Routines are great, but they can become stale. How can you break the monotony?
First, switch up the exercises and find new activities. While weight machines are terrific exercise, you have an entire fitness world to explore.
4. Track Your Progress
One of Emma’s favorite parts about her fitness journey is tracking her progress.
“One of the most motivating things to see on a regular basis is this work that I'm putting in is actually real outcomes in my body,” she said. “I can feel that, but I can also see those numbers changing.”
Psychologists say tracking increases your awareness and reliability while boosting creativity and motivation.
